Parts We Carry
Most houses in Foothill Farms went up around 1977, which puts them square in the middle of the 1962-2004 build window that covers this whole service area. A door that old was almost certainly built with steel rollers on a steel stem, no bearing, no sleeve. If nobody's touched the hardware since the house was framed, that's what's riding in your track right now. We carry 10-ball and 7-ball nylon rollers with sealed bearings in stock, plus the steel stems to match the stem length these older tracks use - a lot of newer rollers won't fit without swapping the stem too. We also keep plain delrin rollers for owners who want something quieter than nylon but cheaper than full sealed-bearing units. What we don't stock is anything custom-length or a roller sized for a commercial track; if your door takes something outside standard residential sizing, we'll tell you that on the call rather than make you wait on a part we don't have.
What It Costs
We don't have a flat number to print for Foothill Farms specifically, and we're not going to make one up. Roller cost depends on how many you're replacing - a full set of ten versus two or three that have seized - and whether the track itself needs straightening or replacing at the same time, which is common on a door this age. What we can tell you: household income here runs lower than some of the other suburbs we cover, and we price the same parts and labor rate regardless of which town the call comes from. Ask for a number when you call and we'll give you one before a truck leaves Citrus Heights.
The Symptom
Severe summer heat is part of what wears out old rollers here. Steel rollers with no bearing depend on grease, and grease breaks down fast when a garage sits in high heat for months at a stretch - that's the climate band this whole area falls into. The usual complaint is a door that grinds or shudders partway up, worse on the hottest days, sometimes locking up entirely until it cools. If you're hearing a scrape instead of a smooth roll, or the door jumps a little at the same two spots every time, that's a roller riding flat-sided instead of round. It's not usually a spring problem and it's not usually the opener - it's the thirteen small steel wheels nobody's thought about since the house was built.
Getting It Booked In
Tell us the door is original to a mid-to-late-'70s build when you call - it changes what we load on the truck before we leave Citrus Heights. We'll ask whether the door sticks at the same spot every cycle, whether it's one side or both, and whether you've heard grinding versus a hard stop. That's usually enough to know if we're bringing roller stock only or roller stock plus a track kit. For general garage door work in the area, see Foothill Farms Garage Doors; if you're in Citrus Heights itself rather than Foothill Farms, the Citrus Heights roller replacement page is the one that applies to you.
